Pixels get an image

We have been sent the first image form the upcoming comedy, Pixels. It’s an uninspiring one. All it shows are our four heroes walking down an alley. I would have liked to see a more of an action shot. Especially one with the 80s video game characters in it.

The last information that we were sent about the film concentrated on the classic computer game characters that were to appear in the film. The great, classic, computer game characters they had managed to get licences to use in the film. Some have had TV series, even films, and updates over the years but others are fixed in the era. Q*bert is the one that springs to mind in the latter category.

This is a plea to Sony Pictures. Please make the next image have the computer game characters in it that you have been so triumphant over getting into the film. Us older gamers, the ones who remember putting their quarters into the machines in the arcades, have an idea of what they should look like. The younger gamers may not even have heard of most of them. I am worried that they will pick a cool CGI version and not a blocky 80s version.

My main problem, with the film is the lead. Adam Sandler. Someone who used to be a great box office name. His last couple of film on the other hand… On the plus side, it does have a good comedy director in Chris Columbus. The director who gave us Mrs Doubtfire, Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter films.

Here’s hoping that there will be more images and a teaser trailer in the next couple of months. I may even have to change my mind.
In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner, now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders to defeat the aliens and save the planet.
Heading out of the arcades and into UK cinemas May 27, 2015.
