Veronica Mars is hitting the big screen

After the series was cancelled after 3 seasons and the CW Network not picking it up for a fourth, the creator Rob Thomas and star Kirsten Bell then decided to try and raise the money for a feature film. Unlike the normal way of doing this, they turned to the internet for help. They decided on a campaign on Kickstarter. With a “modest” budget idea of $2 million. To everyone surprise this was hit in only ten hours! It went on to raise just over $5.7 million!

The film became the third highest funded project ever in Kickstarter history. It also became the highest ever film project and with 91,000 backers the project became the most widely supported one on the site.

Today saw the release of the trailer, as well as the worldwide release date of March 14. A year and a day since the project started on Kickstarter!

March 14 also sees the film available to buy on iTunes, Google Play, Sky Store, Virgin Media, BT TV, Blinkbox, Xbox Video, Playstation Store, Dixons KnowHow Movies, Wuaki and UPC in Ireland.
