The news is that Twin Peaks is coming back for a new season! 25 years after the original series finished.
It’s hard to say how much this series made to the television audience. For a series that only ran for two seasons so many years ago, we are still talking about that ground breaking series. It had a simple premise. Who killed Laura Palmer. Simple? Not really. The plot snaked its way through the intrigue of a small town in Washington State.
It had legions of fans that waited until the next episode came out. Bought the soundtrack on tape, the diary of Laura Palmer and that of Agent Cooper. Wondering what wisdom the Log Lady would come up with. Who was the One Armed Man and what did he know?
As I write this, I dug out the soundtrack on the iPod and am re-living my late teenage years of the series. Watching it on a number of televisions [ I didn’t have much luck with televisions as I always brought them from a market very cheaply and they didn’t last all that long ] with friends glued to the set.
A lot of television series since Twin Peaks left us can be traced back to that series. Sometimes strange things start occurring for some reason. Questions are asked and sometimes resolved. Unresolved cliffhangers making us fans wonder what happened to Coop in that room. What would happen next?
Hopefully that question, as well as many others, will be answered.
Currently, we don’t know who will be back in this new series but rumours that Kyle MacLachlan will be back as FBI Agent Dale Cooper. Other areas are unknown apart from it’s going to be set in the present day. two decades after Laura Palmer’s murder that started it all. It’s going to be interesting to find out what people have been doing. Who got married, who carried on the same way. Lots of questions.
The other news is that David Lynch and Mark Frost will be writing all of the 9 episodes with David directing them all. Expect it to be very weird, gripping and hopefully it will answer some of the questions that the fans still want answers to. It will be shown on Showtime in The States but no international broadcasters have been named, as yet. I would say that the show will, probably, be on Sky but it may get onto Channel 4 here in the UK.
The release date is 2016, 25 years after the series finished. So expect a lot of news when the series starts filming next year, 2015.
Hopefully it will contain the Damn fine coffee and pie that we remember from the original.
